Farewell, Goodbye.

In high school, Adrian Pau grew into young leader through mental and physical training from years of being a Royal Canadian Air Cadet.  Adrian made way for AJ Pau in university, who grew into someone with more friends than cents in a dollar, who pushed his personal limits of cramming as many commitments in a day as possible, and who graduates as a budding professional who is more confident than ever.

Fill in the blank:  AJ Pau has grown into ___ Pau, BCom.

Who I am is ultimately determined by God.  Looking back at all I've gone through over the past four years, I now realize the lessons that God wanted me to learn.  All the failures and the distress, the disappointments and the triumphs, it's a lot clearer to me than before.  I came into UBC with certain expectations, I leave it as a whole different person with a different outlook on life.  Grown up?  For sure.  Mature?  Still working on that, and maturation takes a lifetime.

In the end, one thing is certain: I've done too much for myself, and now it's time to do more for God.  May He grant me the perserverence and strength to do such!  All things have a meaning, and that just makes life all the more beautiful and rich when we see the reason for all existence.

On Judging Books by Their Titles

There are strange books, then there are these books, which have titles that are so ridiculous that they need to be honoured with an award!  Here's an excerpt from the CBC article on the UK tongue-in-cheek contest:

The Bookseller, the U.K.-based publishing industry trade magazine, revealed Friday its short list of six titles contending for this year's 29th annual Bookseller-Diagram Prize.

The other nominees are:
  • The Stray Shopping Carts of Eastern North America: A Guide to Field Identification
  • Tattooed Mountain Woman and Spoon Boxes of Daghestan
  • Di Mascio's Delicious Ice Cream: Di Mascio of Coventry, an Ice Cream Company of Repute, with an Interesting and Varied Fleet of Ice Cream Vans
  • Better Never to Have Been: The Harm of Coming into Existence
'Nuff said!  Head on to the CBC article to chuckle at the rest.  Really now, what were these people thinking?

A Promise Remembered

The Lord is good,
and it is because of Him that I still live, and more importantly it is because of Him that I have a reason to do so !  As I am walking to the bus now, He shows me proof of His love.  Looking up, I see twin rainbows, and am suddenly moved to tears.  No one else seems to see them, but go on hurrying to wherever they have to be.  I whip out my Treo and take a few pics (mind you, very lousy pics), and praise Him for answering my prayers in a way that I never thought possible.  Today I have been struggling with something that I felt would be unethical, and asked the Lord to guide me.  Well, in the end I did not have to worry about which choice to make, as He simply removed the entire situation!  Again, something else weighs on my heart, and it is as if He is speaking to me from within the rainbows: "Vex not, my son, and know that I am God!"

Indeed He makes all things well, and moves our hearts to realize the same!  I feel a bit sheepish sniffling away on the bus now, but there is no shame in reacting to having your heart touched, and no little miracle that I feel recharged again.  Thanks, God.

On the Top

There are Gundam fans, and there are Gundam fans.  A bunch of Gundam-otaku in Taiwan came first in a lantern-making festival for the, well, Lantern Festival, and they made an almost-life-sized RX-78-2 Gundam!  That's the original Gundam from the 70's.  Wow!  And I thought I was a fanatic.  Click on for more!
